Stanford/Texas State Announce Mariachi Directors…UTSA still looking

Felicidades a Jonathan Clark who has recently been hired as the new mariachi director at Stanford University. Jonathan is a long-time mariachi historian, musician and aficionado who has contributed as a guest speaker and consultant to numerous mariachi music conferences and exhibitions throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Stanford is lucky to have him! Congratulations also to Michelle Quintero who is the newest addition to Texas State University’s Multicultural faculty. Michelle is a highly sought after clinician and voice teacher in the San Antonio area who has taught many award-winning mariachi vocalists. Michelle will work closely with John Lopez to continue developing Texas State University’s award-winning mariachi music program.

As a reminder, UTSA is looking for a mariachi director. The deadline to apply is July 1. For more information read mariachimusic.com’s June 10th blog titled UTSA seeks Mariachi Director. Colleges and universities with mariachi music programs have a positive influence on higher education among Hispanic youth and are instrumental in the future of the mariachi music industry in the U.S. UTSA’s mariachi director will join Jonathan Clark, John Lopez, Michelle Quintero, Dr. Dahlia Guerra (UTPA), Frank Loera (UTPA) and others in shaping the future of mariachi music in the U.S.
