Vanessa was chosen by members of Mariachi Vargas as the “Best in US” winner of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza vocal competition in 1999.

During San Antonio’s 17th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, Vanessa was a hit at the vocal mariachi student workshops. Over 1000 mariachi students were registered for the workshops taught by Mariachi Vargas, Vanessa, and other professional mariachi instructors. Vanessa also had the opportunity to perform one of the songs from Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, “El Amor de Lupita,”  with Mariachi Vargas during the two concerts on December 3rd and 4th at the Lila Cockrell Theater.
