Fans of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán will have two amazing opportunities to catch Mariachi Vargas in San Antonio during 2018. This is the first time ever that the group performs in the Alamo City twice in the same year, but for two very different shows.

Mariachi Vargas is currently touring alongside international superstar Luis Miguel during his global ¡México Por Siempre! tour. San Antonio will kick off the second leg of the United States portion of Luis Miguel’s tour on Thursday, August 30 at the AT&T Center. Later this Fall, Mariachi Vargas will return to San Antonio to celebrate and headline the 24th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza concert on Sunday, November 18, at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.

Both of these breathtaking shows offer fans a unique way to experience Mariachi Vargas in concert. The international ¡México Por Siempre! tour features Mariachi Vargas in a large-scale arena setting with more than 10,000 people, where they accompany Luis Miguel during the mariachi segment of his concert.

The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza concert is held in a more intimate theater setting, and features a 90-minute show from Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. At the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, audiences are also treated to a first act featuring the first-place winners of the National Group Competitions and the Grand Champion National Vocal Competition winner—all of which are hand picked by Mariachi Vargas members themselves.

Luis Miguel chose Mariachi Vargas to record his first mariachi-themed album México en la Piel in 2003. Mexico en la Piel went platinum throughout the Americas, and won the 2005 Latin Grammy for Best Ranchero Album and 2006 Grammy for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album. Following its success, Luis Miguel negotiated a contract with Mariachi Vargas once more to record his second mariachi-themed album, ¡Mexico Por Siempre!, in 2017.

¡Mexico Por Siempre! is one of the top-grossing concerts internationally. According to Pollstar, Luis Miguel is in the top 20 of the best-selling international tours of 2018, grossing on average more then $1 million in sales per city.

The behind-the-scenes word is that Luis Miguel loves to work with Vargas. The icon collaborates very closely with Vargas’s musical director Carlos Martínez on repertoire, arrangements and recordings.

Vargas is touring with Luis Miguel in more than 50 cities, in two different continents, in 2018. The tour will continue in 2019 in South America and Europe.

“If Luis Miguel’s show is anything like the one we saw in Houston, expect to see Mariachi Vargas accompanying him on a handful of songs, including “La Bikina,” “La Fiesta del Mariachi,” “El Balajú” and “No Discutamos,” says Cynthia Muñoz, producer of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. “It’s somewhat of a short set but, the it’s best part of the entire show!” she adds.

The 24th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, however, is a complete contrast to the Luis Miguel experience, with a more intimate setting a full grasp of the ensemble’s musical capabilities. Continuing on with the energy of Luis Miguel, Vargas fans can expect to hear even more of the selections they chose on the ¡México For Siempre! tour.

Once again, Mariachi Vargas will captivate audiences with flawless and effortless performances.
