Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez will perform in San Antonio this summer as part of the Texas Bandmasters Annual Convention July 21-23, 2022.
Jose Hernandez, founder of the California based mariachi group, has participated in the conference for many years as a master instructor and lecturer, however, this is the first time in the history of the Texas Bandmasters Association, that the statewide convention will feature a mariachi group.
“We’re bringing mariachi music to the forefront of the conference in a way that it has never been done before,” says Roland Sandoval, President of the Texas Bandmasters Association and Fine Arts Instrumental Music Coordinator for the San Antonio Independent School District. “This is going to be huge for our conference participants and we’re thrilled to present a group that has been at the helm of mariachi music performance and mariachi music education in the U.S. for so long. Jose Hernandez has been a leader in mariachi music education for many years and we’re excited to work with he and his group to support the growth and knowledge of mariachi music in Texas,” he says. “We’re grateful to Conn Selmer for sponsoring the event,” he added.
Mariachi Sol de Mexico will perform during the Convention’s opening ceremonies on Thursday, July 21 at 9:00 am and on Friday, July 22 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Performances and workshops are primarily for conference participants, however, visitor passes are available for purchase at TexasBandMasters.org. Jose Hernandez will also conduct a clinic titled “Mariachi Rhythmic and Melodic Concepts” during the conference.
