Young and talented award-winning mariachi vocalists from throughout the nation will come together for a grand performance during the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Recital on Friday, June 30th at The Tobin Center’s Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater.
The recital includes finalists and winners from the 28th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition and participants from the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp. Nayelli Peña, Grand Champion Vocal winner from Grulla, and finalists Dayanara Salinas from Roma and Marianna Rowan from Uvalde, Carolina Rodriguez from Grulla, and Osvaldo Chacon from Del Rio will be amongst the featured soloists. The highlight of the evening will be 50 young mariachi vocalists, adorned in traditional mariachi trajes and Mexican-influenced dresses, singing as a choir in a breathtaking performance. While partaking in one of Mexico’s oldest traditions, these young artists offer a refreshing take on mariachi in a unique recital that is packed with culture, elegance and excitement.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Recital is a culmination of the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp where aspiring mariachi vocalists hone their skills in mariachi voice. Students have the opportunity to study vocal technique, stage presence and performance excellence with master vocal instructors throughout a week-long period. Instructors include Octavio Moreno of Tucson, Vanessa Alonzo of Houston and Alexa Posas of Roma.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp is a spin-off of the annual Mariachi Extravaganza, host to the National Mariachi Group and Vocal Competitions. The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp is produced by Muñoz Public Relations (MPR) in collaboration with The Tobin Center’s Generation NEXT Education Initiative. MPR is the producer of the 29th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza. The Tobin Center’s Generation NEXT connects education and the arts and supports diversity and culturally relevant programming.
