Registration for the 29th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza will open on Friday, September 1st on MariachiMusic.com.
Every year students, directors, and mariachi aficionados travel to San Antonio to experience one of the largest mariachi festivals in the world – The Mariachi Extravaganza – a weeklong event that celebrates mariachi music through workshops, competitions, and a concert that will be headlined by none other than “La Excelencia de México” Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán.
National Vocal Competition
Any student interested in participating in the vocal competition is invited to register on mariachimusic.com under “Individual registration” and submit an audition video for the preliminary phase of the competition. Videos are reviewed by a panel of judges made up of accomplished entertainment industry professionals. Please verify that the video link submitted works before completing the registration. If you plan to also compete with a group, you will be required to complete both the “individual” and “group” registration forms. Exceptionally talented vocalists compete in one of three categories: Elementary/Middle School, High School and College/University. First, second, and third place winners are selected in each category, and one vocalist overall is selected and crowned “Grand Champion” and will get the opportunity to perform during the Mariachi Extravaganza concert. Deadline for the Nation Vocal Competition is October 1st.
National Group Competition
The Mariachi Extravaganza National Group Competition is considered to be the most highly competitive mariachi group competition for middle school, high school and college/university level mariachi groups in the United States. The level of musicianship continues to improve each year and the Extravaganza often attracts among the most competitive groups in the country. First, second and third place winners are selected in each of the three previously mentioned categories. First place winners will be invited to perform their competition piece as an opening act during the grand finale concert. All groups interested in participating in the competition are invited to register on mariachimusic.com under “group registration“.
Original Songwriting Competition
The Original Songwriting Competition is the only competition of the Mariachi Extravaganza open to the public. This event was added to the festival in 2011 to provide aspiring songwriters with the opportunity to share their original works with professional musicians, composers, and record labels. Four submission will be awarded and the deadline to submit your original composition is on October 1st. Anyone interested in participating in the songwriting competition is invited to register on mariachimusic.com under “songwriting registration“.
