Important mariachi music events take place in both the U.S. and Mexico throughout the year. Some have
a long history and have been taking place for decades like the Tucson Mariachi Conference, Mariachi
USA, the Mariachi Spectacular in Albuquerque, the Mariachi Encuentro Internacional in Guadalajara and
the Mariachi Extravaganza. Others are new or fairly new like the ones in Ajijic, Las Vegas, Houston and
Brownsville. Events in Tucson, Brownsville, Albuquerque, San Diego, Houston and Guadalajara are
organized through non-profit organizations as where festivals in Edinburg and Laredo are organized
through Universities. Events in Los Angeles and San Antonio have been produced by the same two
female entrepreneurs for over, or just under, 3 decades.
No two festivals are alike. Each of them includes various events, featuring different artists and an
experience that incorporates the uniqueness of the city. The common ground is that they all serve as a
platform to showcase mariachi groups and vocalists, and all but one, culminates in a grand concert
performance featuring professional mariachi groups from either the U.S. and/or Mexico.
