The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition deadline is less than one month away. Everyone interested in participating should submit a recording by the October 1st deadline and follow the rules here on this blog and on mariachimusic.com.
The vocal competition is open to all elementary, middle school, high school and college/university students in good academic standing. Vocal contestants are required to register online for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza by completing the conference individual registration form, even if you are registering with a group.
Audition requirements are that you must email an MP3 or Youtube video link to ally@mariachimusic.com by the October 1st deadline. Be sure to include your name in your email, the school you attend, a personal email and phone number. This is very important especially if your file is being sent by your vocal coach or a recording studio tech.
Each contestant may submit one song only. Finalists will be posted on mariachimusic.com on November 1 at 10 a.m. Finalists may compete with a pista/soundtrack or a full mariachi group that is registered for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. All finalists will compete with the same song that was submitted for the audition. Make sure that your voice is loud and clear for the judges to hear and make sure you are extremely comfortable with your song choice.
Finalists selected will compete on Saturday, December 7 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lila Cockrell Theater. The competition is the only vocal competition judged by members of the world’s preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan who will perform in concert in San Antonio on Saturday, December 7.
Now, start planning, preparing and practicing and good luck to all participants!
