Organizers of the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) have selected student mariachi musicians and vocalists from South Texas to perform during the OSF Green Show July 12-19 in Ashland, Oregon.
Cotulla High School’s Mariachi Cotuleño from Cotulla, Texas and Roma High School’s Karenn Lazo from Roma will travel to Ashland, Oregon this summer as first place winners of the San Antonio based Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. Karenn and Mariachi Cotuleño were selected by members of Mariachi Vargas as the best in their categories during the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio last November. The Extravaganza serves as host to the largest and most competitive mariachi group competitions of its kind in the U.S. Twenty-seven mariachi musicians and directors will travel to Ashland for the festival. Students will perform 4 shows for approximately 5,000 people as part of the Green Show. A detailed schedule of their performances is listed on osfashland.org.
