San Antonio based Mariachi Los Caporales is currently in Africa performing at the world cup on behalf of Maseca and Hispano USA. The group is following the Mexican soccer team May 12 through June 24 in Africa with performances throughout the country.
Mariachi Los Caporales has been a Texas favorite since 1993. The group was started by its director Roy Quintero who has played mariachi music since the early age of 5.
Los Caporales recorded a CD titled Los Caporales Jamas Jamas several years ago and performs regularly on Univision Network’s Despierta America cooking segment “Cocinando con las estrellas.”
Members of the group performing in Africa include Roy Quintero, director and violinist, Javier Rubio and Caesar Jauregui on trumpet, Ricardo Salinas and Sonia Marin on violin, Gil Hernandez on the vihuela, Philip Sanchez on the guitarron and Macario Roman as a vocalist.
