Harvard’s Mariachi to Compete in San Antonio

Yening had no knowledge of mariachi music was when his college roommate Sergio Ramirez invited him to attend a mariachi group rehearsal. He fell in love with the music instantly because of the sound, style and energy and the people involved in Mariachi Veritas de Harvard. Yening joined the group and invited his brother Yelun to a performance. Yelun was impressed with the sound of the group and notice how much fun everyone was having. He too joined the group bringing the number of members to 10. Yening now serves as musical director of Mariachi Veritas de Harvard with Sergio as the director of the group.

Yening and Yelun were born in Beijeng and moved to Boston at the age of 5. They’ve played violin since the age of 7 and have spent much of their lives as classical musicians performing in symphonies and chamber orchestras around Boston. Yening studies Economics while Yelun studies Earth and Planetary Science at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts (hint, Yelun wears glasses, Yening does not).

Yening and Yelun will compete with Mariachi Veritas de Harvard on Friday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m. at the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium. Call 210-225-3353 for ticket information.
