The San Antonio based Mariachi Las Alteñas won first place at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Mariachi competition this year. Mariachi Los Arrieros from Laredo and Mariachi Damas de Jalisco from San Antonio came it at 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Mariachi Las Alteñas competed in front of a live audience of more than 70,000 people on Sunday, March 14 at the Reliant Stadium. They performed a Popurri of Vicente Fernandez favorites that included Los Mandados, Por Tu Maldito Amor, Estos Celos and Volver, Volver. Las Alteñas received the greatest applause and brought home a cash prize of $7,500 and an invitation to compete in next year’s event.
