UTPA won first place in the college/university category during the 2009 Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza last year in San Antonio. The group has thrived under the leadership of Dr. Dahlia Guerra for more than a decade and continues to set the standard of mariachi music programs among colleges and universities in the U.S. This has been a great year for UTPA’s Mariachi as they have also been invited to perform several shows in Houston this Fall as part of the Houston Grand Opera’s premiere of the first mariachi opera “To Cross the Face of the Moon.”
