Esteban began singing at the age of 9 in various talent shows throughout Texas. After winning “Best Vocalist in the US” in 2007, he began opening for Mariachi Vargas in concerts across Texas. In 2008, Esteban was one of 25 contestants chosen for “La Academia” (Mexico’s version of American Idol) and made it all the way to the top 10 finalists. Esteban Velasquez will be in San Antonio for the 16th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza where he will open for the internationally acclaimed Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan on Saturday, December 4 at the Municipal Auditorium. Esteban will make an appearance at several of the events taking place prior to the concert including the Serenata en el Rio on Thursday, December 2 at the Rivercenter Mall Lagoon, the Mariachi Group Competitions on Friday, December 3 and  the Mariachi Vocal Competitions on Saturday, December 4.
