Start planning now to participate in the nation’s largest and most competitive mariachi vocal competition to be held Saturday, December 1 at the Lila Cockrell Theater as part of San Antonio’s 18th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. The competition is judged by none other than members of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. Vocalists enrolled in school from elementary to college are eligible to submit a video or audio recording by the October 1 deadline. If submitting a video, post it on YouTube and email a link to cynthia@mariachimusic.com. For audio recordings, email an MP3 file to the same email (sending an MP3 file is simple….once the audio recording is on a CD, email the file as an attachment). All participants must register on mariachimusic.com with registration paid in full by Oct.1.

Entries will be reviewed in mid-October and finalists will be posted on mariachimusic.com by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1. Approximately 35 finalists will be selected to compete in one of 4 categories: Elementary, Middle School, High School and College/University.

Submit one complete song and be sure that your voice can be clearly heard. Often times recordings are submitted, and voices are in the background. Do make sure you triple check your recording prior to submitting.
