Concerts are scheduled for Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Laredo Civic Center in Laredo; Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the American Bank Center Selena Auditorium in Corpus Christi and Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio. Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán has performed for six generations since 1898 with a home base in Mexico City. The group performs year-round throughout the U.S. and Latin America and has recorded more than 200 albums. Their latest CD, titled 115 Aniversario, pays tribute to their 115th anniversary and includes music written by famous Latin composers including Juan Luis Guerra, Emilio Estefan, Marco A. Solis, Joan Sebastien, Ruben Fuentes and Camilo Sesto.

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan will perform the Texas concerts with a 14-piece ensemble that includes 7 violins, 3 trumpets, 1 harp, 1 guitarron, 1 vihuela and 1 guitar. Members include Alberto ‘Beto’ Alfaro, Miguel Angel Barron, Andres Gonzalez, Jose ‘Pepe’ Martinez, Sr., Jose ‘Pepe’ Martinez, Jr. and Daniel Martinez on violin; Gustavo Alvarado, Federico Torres and Fernando Velasquez on trumpet; Julio Martinez on harp; Enrique de Santiago on guitarron; Gilberto Aguirre Macias on vihuela and Juan ‘Arturo’ Vargas on guitar. Raul ‘Jr.’ Cuellar will join Mariachi Vargas as a guest vocalist and violinist in concerts in the U.S. for the remainder of 2013. Raul is originally from San Antonio, Texas and is well recognized as one of the greatest mariachi vocalists and violinists in the United States.
