The 19th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is off to a great start. Fernando Velásquez has arrived from L.A. for the “Splendor of the Mariachi Trumpet” presentation this evening with California-based mariachi historian Jonathan Clark, and, Mariachi Vargas’ first trumpet player Miguel Martínez. The event starts at 6 pm and RSVPs are required by calling the Instituto Cultural de Mexico at 210-227-0123. Please plan to arrive by 5:30 p.m.
Do plan for cold and rainy weather this weekend. It’s 82 degrees right now but weather forecasters predict cold and rainy weather by mid afternoon tomorrow (Thursday). Therefore, the Serenata en el Rio event is canceled as it will get down to 39 degrees by Thursday and 32 degrees by Saturday. Do bring lots of warm clothing!!!
Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza conference participants are invited to participate in a Mariachi Jam session at the Grand Hyatt in the Lone Star Corridor from 6 pm – 12 midnight on Thursday evening.
Other than that, there’s no better place to be than indoors at the Lila Cockrell Theater this weekend participating in the most awesome mariachi group and vocal competitions and mariachi music presentations held as part of the 19th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone!
