Gratitude for a Remarkable Year of Mariachi Music – And there’s more to come!

June 1, 2025 – As we approach the halfway point of the year, I’m filled with heartfelt gratitude for the incredible moments we’ve already experienced in 2025. The passion, dedication, and sheer talent that surrounds us in the mariachi community continues to amaze and inspire.

Coming out of the unforgettable 30th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza in December, we jumped right into new adventures—beginning with the exciting Mariachi Extravaganza Las Vegas, held March 8 at UNLV.

EXPANDING TO THE WEST WITH LAS VEGAS

Jonathan Palomar and Mariachi Revolución lit up the stage in Las Vegas with a show that had the crowd clapping, singing, and throwing gritos all night long. Their energy was contagious, and they were joined by competition winners and former grand champions whose performances left first-time attendees in awe.

The level of artistry from both professional musicians and emerging young talent is not only exhilarating—it’s a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. It brings people together, fills hearts with joy, and ensures that mariachi music continues to thrive for future generations.

A JOURNEY TO THE VALLEY AND THE SOUTH TEXAS MARIACHI FESTIVAL

Soon after, I had the pleasure of traveling to the Rio Grande Valley with members of UTSA’s Mariachi Los Paisanos to attend Dr. Dahlia Guerra’s South Texas Mariachi Festival.

The night was filled with world-class performances from Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, Mariachi Los Arrieros, Jonathan Palomar, Vanessa Alonzo, and more. The talent was exceptional, and the experience reaffirmed how strong and vibrant the mariachi tradition is across our region.

A STUNNING EVENING IN BOERNE

On May 3, we returned to the Texas Hill Country for a magical event at the Cave Without a Name in Boerne, Texas. This special show, Serenata para las Madres, featured Trio Palenque with Luis Villa, Ismael Rivera, and a remarkable guest from Spain—requintista Dani Garcia.

Dani’s performance took everyone by surprise. His skill on the requinto was extraordinary, and what makes his story even more special is that he works full time as a police officer in Spain. It’s a powerful testament to how far artists will go to follow their passion and share their gift with the world.

We’re excited to announce that Dani will return to Boerne next year with Trio Palenque on May 2, 2026—so mark your calendars!

Ballet Nepantla in Santa Barbara

Just two weeks later, I had the joy of reconnecting with Ballet Nepantla after their powerful appearance at last year’s Mariachi Extravaganza with UTRGV’s Mariachi Aztlán and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. Their performance at the Marjorie Luke Theater in Santa Barbara was nothing short of breathtaking. Their fusion of ballet and folklórico, set to the sounds of mariachi, continues to push the boundaries of tradition while honoring its roots.

Looking Ahead

All of these moments are possible because of the incredible artists we work with and the dedicated team behind the scenes who help bring each event to life. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of a community that pours its heart into this music and shares it with so much love. And, best of all, as a result of the success of these events, a total of $21,500 was awarded in scholarships & grants to competition winners in San Antonio, Las Vegas and the Rio Grande Valley. This isn’t possible without you – the people who attend and support these these events – and our sponsors who continue to support us and believe in what we do.

Up next is the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Recital at the Tobin Center on June 27. This will be another unforgettable night of music and talent—don’t miss it! And, there’s still time to register to participate in the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp. Click here to register.

And of course, we’re already preparing for the 31st Annual Mariachi Extravaganza in San Antonio, happening December 4–6, 2025. We can’t wait to welcome you there! Look out for the announcement when tickets will go on sale this summer. Registration begins September 1.
