Former Grand Champion Vocal Winners gather in Boerne for Inaugural Día de los Muertos–themed Show

Experience an unforgettable evening with “A Taste of the Mariachi Extravaganza”a Día de los Muertos–themed concert unlike any other. This special performance assembles the most extraordinary voices from the Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition in one night, celebrating three decades of talent, music and tradition.

For the first time, former Grand Champion Vocal Winners Nayelli Peña, Lorraine “Lori” Garza, Kamryn “Daniella” Ramirez, Ashley Treviño, William “Carlton” Galvez and Victoria Acosta will unite on one stage and perform mariachi classics along with songs traditional to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Each of these young artists have built emerging careers, performing with world-class symphonies, operas, renowned mariachis, and even appearing on national television.

Set inside the awe-inspiring Cave Without A Name, this show transcends a typical concert experience. The cave’s breathtaking acoustics and dramatic natural setting amplify the power of mariachi music, creating an intimate and unforgettable cultural celebration. “A Taste of the Mariachi Extravaganza” is more than a concert—it’s a tribute to heritage, artistry, and the spirit of Día de los Muertos in remembrance of lost loved ones. About the artists:

Lorraine Garza was named Vocal Grand Champion in 2024 and opened for the world renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in December. She traveled to Las Vegas in March where she opened for lead vocalist Jonathan Palomar at the inaugural Mariachi Extravaganza Las Vegas. Lorraine “Lori” Garza is currently a senior at Grulla High School in Grulla, Texas.

Nayelli Peña is a junior at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she is studying music education. She  was named Vocal Grand Champion in 2022 and opened for the esteemed Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán. She also performed with Trio Los Reyes and the Amarillo Symphony in Amarillo, Texas and was featured in Peter Greenberg’s Hidden Gems of Texas Hill Country earlier this year. 

Ashley Treviño is currently a student at the University of Texas in Austin where she will be receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree this December in Human Dimensions of Organizations with a minor in Sociology. She was named Vocal Grand Champion in 2020 and appears as a violinist in Becky G’s Por el Contrario Video with Leonardo Aguilar & Angela Aguilar. Ashley is originally from McAllen, Texas and comes from a family of mariachi musicians. Her dad, mom and siblings all play, or have played, and taught mariachi.

Kamryn “Daniella” Ramirez is currently recording with Blue Mariachi Productions owned by Chris Perez well known for his recordings (and marriage) with the late Selena Quintanilla. Kamryn won the National Grand Champion title in 2015 where she opened for Vargas. She has since released 2 singles along with videos and is working on her first album in 2026.

William “Carlton” Galvez is a member of Trio Chapultepec where he has enjoyed a lifelong dream of performing with the Houston Grand Opera over the past several years. He was named Vocal Grand Champion in 2013 while attending Palo Alto College. William is very involved in mariachi music education and the Texas All-state competitions and contributes significantly to providing guitarron etudes.

Victoria Acosta is a graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word. She was named Vocal Grand Champion in 2000 at the tender age of 8 years old and appeared on Season 12 of American Idol where she performed in front judges that included of Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson. Her first album – titled “Once Upon a Time” – was recorded in 2004 with Covert Records. She has fond memories of singing the National Anthem for the San Antonio Spurs and currently performs with the E7 band in San Antonio.

Vocalists will be accompanied by UTSA’s award-winning Mariachi Los Paisanos. Los Paisanos has climbed their way to the top at the Mariachi Extravaganza National Group Competitions in the College/University category. They ranked 3rd in 2023 and won 2nd in 2024 and have built a reputable and growing mariachi music program under the direction of Michael Acevedo. Mariachi Los Paisanos will be competing at the 31st Annual Mariachi Extravaganza Group Competitions on Friday, December 5 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Come cheer them on and wear your blue and orange to show the UTSA spirit.

  • Arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in.
  • The cave maintains a cool year-round temperature—bring a light jacket or wrap.
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended for walking on uneven surfaces.
  • Seating is general admission unless otherwise specified.
  • There are 127 steps inside the cave where the seating is set up for an intimate crowd of 200.
