Thanks to all the talented mariachi vocalists who auditioned for the 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition!
The turnout was incredible, and we applaud all of the students who continue to thrive vocally in the mariachi genre. Each year students from across the nation submit entries for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition, but 2021 saw an even greater number. Entries were received from eight states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Utah!!! The sheer amount of talent that exists throughout the nation is jaw dropping.
Your entries, along with the support from your families, mariachi directors, school districts, vocal coaches and friends, help make the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition the largest and most competitive in the nation. Congratulations to all of you and all the best as you continue developing your skills and knowledge of mariachi music. As a reminder, all vocal entrants are fully registered to participate in this year’s Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza and everyone is encouraged to take what they have learned from this year and continue to audition in the future.
The vocal finalists represent a class of gifted and skilled singers who through the challenges of this past year, have maintained a level of musicianship that is quite extraordinary. You truly represent the best of the very best of mariachi vocalists and we applaud your hard work. Listed below are the vocal finalists for this year:
Congratulations! The ages of the finalists range from 8 to 24 years old and represent students from nearly 20 cities across the country. Nearly half of the vocal finalists have competed in previous Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competitions and about a third have placed in their categories. The return of experienced competitors makes this competition the toughest in the nation. Many of the finalists are accompanied by excellent mariachi groups who compliment the artists. Every year, the extensive support from their community and the show of support at the competitions, makes this event a favorite during the Extravaganza.
First, second, and third place winners will be selected in elementary/middle school, high school and college/university categories. One student will be selected as the overall Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Grand Champion Vocalist. Judges will be made up of members of Mariachi Vargas and a celebrity guest artist that will soon be announced.
A drawing will take place on the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Facebook page to determine the order of the competition in each category on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to log on in at 6 pm Central Time.
The 2021 Extravaganza is right around the corner, and we are counting down the days until we see everyone in San Antonio! Also, as a reminder, the deadline to register as a participant of the 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is Friday, November 15th.
The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition is open to the public and wristbands must be purchased to attend. Purchase them at the pre-sale price through Nov. 27 at mariachimusic.com for $20 or on the day of competition for $25 at the door. One wristband allows for entry into the National Group Competition, National Vocal Competition and National High School Group Finals.
As a reminder, entries for the original songwriting competition are currently being accepted. The deadline is November 1.
