Producers for TV AZTECA’s La Academia will hold auditions on Saturday, July 9th at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall in San Antonio for vocalists interested in being on the popular, international Spanish language TV reality show. Registration will begin at 9am. Contestants will be asked to sing A cappella before three judges in a “private” area. Ten contestants will receive a call back for a final casting in which they will perform a second time in front of a live audience on Saturday, July 16 from 2-4pm at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall. The 10 finalists will perform before a live audience and a panel of 3 judges. One winner will be selected to win an all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles for the grand final casting in August. Auditions are open to all ages. Contestants are not required to speak Spanish, but if chosen as one of the finalists at the final casting in LA, they must be willing to travel to Mexico where the show is produced. Finalists will live in Mexico until they are eliminated from the show which could be up to 4 months or more.
Esteban Velasquez (pictured above), Best Vocalist in the US from the 2007 Mariachi Extravaganza, made it to the top 10 finalists on the 6th season of La Academia. He said recently in a telephone conversation “it’s a great experience for anyone who is really interested in furthering their career in music. It’s a sacrifice to put your life on hold for several months during the production but it’s well worth it. Finalists get international exposure on television and have the opportunity to work with popular Latin artists, coaches and teachers. It’s a tremendous opportunity to really learn about the industry and it certainly opens doors for future endeavors in the music biz,” he says.
Esteban welcomes questions via email in preparation for the auditions. Feel free to email him at estebanvelasquez1@gmail.com or call the TV AZTECA offices in San Antonio for more information at 210-277-5800.
