Spruce up Summer Fun with Mariachi Vargas in Houston July 18

Spruce up your summer fun and join us in Houston for another spectacular concert featuring Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán July 18 at the beautiful Wortham Center’s Brown Theater. The Houston show is the 4th stop on the 2009 Texas Mariachi Vargas Concert Tour. Texans love mariachi music— especially Mariachi Vargas— for their enormous creativity, versatile repertoire and entertaining performances that are at a level of perfection beyond one’s imagination. “It’s an EXPERIENCE to see them perform,” says Mayte Sera Weitzman, Goya spokesperson and sponsor of the tour. “Their concerts are amazing and Goya is proud to join Fiesta Mart as sponsors of the tour.”

The Houston stop will begin with mariachi music performances at selected Fiesta Mart locations with Goya product sampling taking place simultaneously. Starting on July 14 Mariachi MECA and Mariachi Hermosura will perform along with Julio Martinez, Esteban Velasquez (Odessa) and Virginia Stille (Houston). Catch Mariachi MECA’s performances on July 14 at 12 noon at the Fiesta Mart on 1603 Spencer Hwy. S. and on July 15 at 12 noon at Fiesta Mart at 4711 Airline. See Houston’s award winning Mariachi Hermosura and Virginia Stille July 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fiesta Mart on 6200 Bellaire and on July 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fiesta Mart on 2323 Wirt Rd. Esteban Velasquez, TV AZTECA’s La Academia finalist, will join Mariachi Vargas’ harp player Julio Martinez on July 16 at 12 noon at Fiesta Mart’s 14315 Bellaire location and again at 5:30 p.m. in Katy at the Fiesta Mart store located at 333 S. Mason Rd. Experience the great taste of Goya’s beverages and frijoles while listening to the best of mariachi music at these selected Fiesta Mart locations.

Houstonians also have the opportunity to take part in master classes with members of Mariachi Vargas. Thanks to the support of Fiesta Mart and Goya, students and adults can study with the five-generation Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan at workshops taking place at MECA (www.meca-houston.org). To register for master classes call Sandra Herrera at 713-802-9370 ext. 32 or Alice Valdez at 832-865-6157.

And on Saturday, July 18 Mariachi Vargas will take stage at the Wortham Center’s Brown Theater for the second consecutive year to perform songs from their latest CD “Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan: Mas de 110 anos y aqui estamos…”. Songs include popular hits from TV novelas like Para Siempre (theme song for Fuego en la Sangre) and Estos Celos. All of Latin America knows these popular songs. There’s a popurri on the CD called Grande exitos de grandes compositores with old songs written by great composers such as “Vive” (Jose Napoleon), “Jamas” (Camilo Blanes), “Sabor a mi” (Alvaro Carrillo), “A pesar de todo” (Nelson Ned) and “Adoro” (Armando Manzanero). The CD is available on mariachimusic.com.
