Texas State Honors Angeles Ochoa

angeleso-223_2_10Well known mariachi music composer and singer Angeles Ochoa will be honored and recognized May 1 at Texas State University as part of the 11th Annual Feria del Mariachi. Ochoa is one of the most accomplished Mexican rachera singers alive and has contributed much of her life to the preservation and expansion of mariachi music throughout Latin America.

I’m looking quite forward to seeing her in person for the first time in my life this weekend during performances scheduled at Texas State starting at 7 p.m.

Celeste Curiel, graduate student at Texas State and 2009 Best in the US Mariachi Vocalist, will perform along with Texas State University’s very own award winning group Mariachi Nueva Generacion. San Antonio’s very own Mariachi Campanas de America will perform along with festival competition winners. General admission tickets are available for $10. For more information visit feriadelmariachi.com or call 512-245-7401.

Felicidades a John Lopez and the Texas State University team for 11 years of Feria del Mariachi! Looking forward to 11 more!
