Thanks Mariachimusic.com for the tip!
Last Sunday I was looking for MV’s 2010/2011 schedule, assuming I’d
schedule a trip to Guadalajara, Guanajuato or elsewhere around their
itinerary. And to my HUGE surprise here on mariachimusic.com I saw
MV’s Friday’s scheduled performance just 5 days away and a mere 251
miles or 4 hour drive from my home in Chicago! I went.
This Gringo had a wonderful evening! Twenty years ago I lived briefly
in Mexico and fell in love with the food and music. In Chicago I’m
surrounded by the food and other elements of the culture but to get a
real dose of Mariachi at that highest level means to go to the source
— Mariachi Vargas.
Mariachi Vargas is an amazing group of talent! Among the 13 they now
boast 8 vocalists. Not noted on this site’s artists info (or the UMS
roster)is a third trumpeter who also sings, a booming baritone, a
voice very much worthy of more solos.
I hope someone noted and can share the playlist from Friday’s show!
