SAN ANTONIO – (Jan. 10, 2010) – Beginning today, mariachi fans can re-live highlights from the 16th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza on San Antonio on Demand Channel 988. Time Warner Cable digital subscribers will be able to enjoy watching the 30-minute, bilingual special capturing phenomenal performances from Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, recording artist Esteban Velasquez, Mariachi 7 Leguas and award-winning middle and high school mariachi groups and vocalists when they want and as many times as they want for FREE. Digital customers can simply watch a replay of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza TV special on Channel 988 by scrolling to “Arts – Entertainment” and “Mariachi” hitting “B” on their remote control to play.
Featured in the special are the most talented musicians and vocalists in the world that make up Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. The internationally renowned and Mexico City based group has performed for 113 years and five generations and lures new fans each year with breathtaking performances of songs like Sabes Una Cosa and Popurri Alla en el Rancho Grande.
The elegant actress and talented Mistress of Ceremonies Eva Maria Campbell Morales, owner of Paraiso Translations and Talent, served as host of 16th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza TV Special that took place on Dec. 4 at the Municipal Auditorium with performances from Odessa, Texas, native Esteban Velasquez and the Rio Grande Valley’s elite Mariachi 7 Leguas.
Performances can be seen from student groups Veterans Middle School Mariachi Juvenil de America and Rio Grande City High School from Rio Grande City, Texas.
The 16th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza TV special, which originally aired on KNIC Telefutura Channel 17 and KWEX Univision Channel 41 on Dec. 25.
