Luis Fernando “El Tomaton” Velasquez is the 3rd trumpet player for Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán and also the second newest member in the group. Fernando is from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and joined Mariachi Vargas in 2007. Mariachimusic.com had the opportunity to do a brief interview with him on Sunday, May 22, after the 4th Annual Corpus Christi Mariachi Music Fest. Before joining el mejor mariachi del mundo, Fernando played with several well-known groups in Mexico, including Mariachi Los Toritos and Mariachi International Guadalajara, and in the U.S., including Mariachi Los Camperos and Mariachi Sol de Mexico. Fernando is a phenomenal trumpet player, and we are very glad he is a part of Mariachi Vargas.
