The world renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán is preparing to travel to Paris, France this year to perform “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” (To Cross the Face of the Moon) with the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) for six shows on September 23-27, 2011 at the Théâtre du Châtelet. Tickets are now available for this one-of-a-kind event.

“Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” is the world’s first mariachi opera and was commissioned by HGO through its Song of Houston project. It is a beautiful story about the love and struggles of a Mexican-American family through three generations.  Music was written by José “Pepe” Martinez, music director of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” premiered on November 13, 2010 in Houston at the Wortham Center – Brown Theater to a sold-out audience and received outstanding reviews.

Joining them in Paris will be Vanessa Cerda who was selected by Mariachi Vargas as the “Best Mariachi Vocalist in the US” during the 1999 Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio. Vanessa will perform as a cast member with the Houston Grand Opera.
