California female vocalist, Susie Garcia, premieres in the Shakespeare play Measure for Measure currently showing in the Ashland, Oregon. She along with two other female mariachi musicians make up the group, Las Colibri, in a modern take of the Shakespeare play. Mary Alfaro, from Brownsville, TX, Vanessa Calderon, from La Puente, CA, and Susie Garcia are scheduled to perform 121 shows this year as part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Green Show. First place winners from San Antonio’s 16th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, Mariachi Cascabel from Rio Grande City High School, and “Best Mariachi Vocalist in the US” winner Karenn Lazo from Roma, TX will have the opportunity to see Las Colibri in Measure for Measure next week and to perform with Susie Garcia during the Green Show. This is the first project of its kind that includes traditional mariachi music with acting in a Shakespeare play.
