Public Viewing of Mariachi High Set for June 29

A good portion of Mariachi High was filmed during the 2009 and 2010 Mariachi Vargas Extravaganzas in San Antonio. The documentary follows Mariachi Halcon (Zapata High School) to the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza competition and spotlights many groups and vocalists who participate such as Sebastien De La Cruz, Alysa Guerra, Mariachi Tech-alitlan from Fox Tech High School and Mariachi Cascabel from Rio Grande City High School.

The documentary is well done thanks to Ilana Trachtman from Ruby Pictures, Inc. and Kelly Sheehan from Rainlake. This project was a labor of love by these talented women, and it’s awesome that this documentary will be shared with PBS viewers nationally on Friday, June 29 at 9 p.m. Central Time.

A big thanks to Ilana and Kelly for capturing the passion, the energy and the excitement of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza and the music and culture of the people of South Texas!
