Mariachi Vargas returns to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the second time since November 2010 to perform at the prestigious Hill Auditorium. Texas State University’s Karen Zavala will open for the group on Sunday, January 27 as the 2012 “Best Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S.”
Karen was selected by members of the world’s preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan as the “Best Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S.” after she delivered a stellar performance with the song Palomita de Ojos Negros. She wowed audiences with a performance that was second to none using fabulous facial expressions reminiscent of the popular Mexican singer Beatrice Adriana.
Karen is originally from Laredo, Texas where she graduated with the highest honors from Cigarroa High School. She is currently an undergraduate student at Texas State University where she is working towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Psychology.
Karen will perform at 4 pm on Sunday and on Monday for a special student presentation and community outreach initiatives. Watch Karen’s award-winning performance during the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk9Z7LIsRlo.
