One of world’s top performing mariachi vocalist and violinist, Steeven Sandoval, will be in San Antonio to lead the 2nd Annual Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp June 24-28 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. Steeven is one of the greatest vocalist who performed with the world’s preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán (1998 – 2012). He is best known for his rendition of Por Amor and also works as a songwriter and producer in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp consists of one full week of mariachi vocal instruction where students will learn vocal technique, performance skills, interpretation and presentation. Students will learn how to sing in a group as well as develop their own style and technique during one-on-one classes. Students will also learn about recording, sound and stage equipment, costume design and more.
Steeven Sandoval established a large fan base while entertaining audiences in the U.S. for over a decade as a member of the internationally renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. He now performs with the Guadalajara based Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán –one of the most popular groups in Mexico who tour the U.S. and Latin America. He will be joined by Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán’s vocalist and guitarist Edwin Origel Mendez (see picture above) who will assist with the camp.
“It’s an honor to have Steeven Sandoval lead the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp for the second consecutive year,” says Cynthia Muñoz, Producer of San Antonio’s 19th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. “The popularity of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition and the inclusion of former Extravaganza vocal winners on mainstream American television shows like America’s Got Talent and American Idol have made mariachi music more popular than ever before. Steeven is a talented vocalist and musician who is excellent at helping students hone their skills,” she added. Last year, students from throughout the state participated in the camp. This year students from throughout the U.S. will participate.
This year’s camp is in collaboration with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (GCAC).
