Thanks to everyone who submitted entries for the 19th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition. The talent is wonderful this year with many students returning with greater experience resulting in an even tougher competition than ever before.

Thanks to all of the parents, family members, friends, educators, mariachi directors and vocal instructors for encouraging your students to participate. These youth would not have the opportunity to take part in what has become the most competitive mariachi vocal competition in the U.S. without your 100% support.

Finalists will be posted on mariachimusic.com on Fri., Nov. 1 at 10 am. Click on the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza page, then click on vocal finalists. If you, your child or your student is on the list, congratulations!!! These students are the top picks this year based on the recording or video submitted and not on previous performances or past accomplishments. If your name is not on the list, please do not be discouraged. There was a tremendous increase in talent that made it tougher to get into the competition than ever before. Don’t give up. Start working now in preparation for next year.

Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza vocal competition finalists will compete in front of members of the world’s preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán on Sat., Dec. 7 at 9 am at the Lila Cockrell Theater located at 200 E. Market St. Winners will be selected in 4 categories: Elementary school, middle school, high school and college/university. One student will be selected as the “Best Vocalists in the U.S.” and will be invited to open for Mariachi Vargas on Dec. 7.

Tickets for the vocal competition may be purchased at the door for $10 starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event.
