Congratulations to everyone who entered the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition! There were a record number of competitors this year, and the general level of artistry was higher than ever before. It was simply awe-inspiring to listen to the submissions, and extremely difficult to narrow them down to the list of finalists. After carefully reviewing each of the audio and video files, we decided to start the competition at 8 a.m. (an hour earlier than originally scheduled) to allow more students to compete. We have a record number of finalists this year (42 in all!), and it will be by far the toughest vocal bout in the history of the Extravaganza. This year’s competition not only includes more talent than we have seen before, but also more former winners competing than in any previous contest. There can be no doubt this will be a truly spectacular event!
The official list of finalists will be posted on mariachimusic.com by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22. Click here on Vocal Finalists after 10 a.m. on that date to see the list of students who will be competing in the 20th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition.
If you don’t find your name on the list this year’s finalists, please don’t be discouraged. Never give up on your dreams, and try again next year! Please remember that everyone who submitted an entry into the vocal competition is entitled to attend the workshops, competitions, and student presentations, as well as the Serenata en el Río on Thursday night.
We look forward to seeing you Saturday morning, November 22, at 8 a.m., in the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Anyone interested in attending the vocal competition can purchase a wristband in advance by calling (210) 225-3353, or at the door on the day of the event. All students registered for the Extravaganza can attend the competition free by showing their conference registration bracelet.
