The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp takes place Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts’ Carlos Álvarez Theater. The camp offers vocal and — due to popular demand — instrumental workshops! Instructors include Octavio Moreno and Vanessa Alonso (cast members with the Houston Grand Opera’s mariachi opera productions) and José “Pepe” Martínez, Jr. (longtime member of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán). It’s an opportunity for students to enhance and fine tune their performance skills with these amazing instructors in preparation for the tough competitions coming up in the fall.
Early registration has been extended to June 1. After that date, registration rates increase. Students have the option of registering for either the vocal or instrumental workshops.
Vocal workshops are $150 and instrumental workshops are $250, through May 22. After that date, the rate is $200 for vocal workshops and $275 for instrumental workshops.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp culminates in a public recital with camp participants on Friday, June 23 at the Carlos Álvarez Theater, located at 100 Auditorium Circle in downtown San Antonio. This is a public, ticketed event for family, friends and the community. Tickets will be available at the Tobin.org.
