Texas State University Hosts Virtual Christmas Concert

This year, Texas State University’s (TXST) Latin Music Studies area prepared a virtual concert for their yearly Merry-Achi Christmas event. Students from Mariachi Lince de Oro, Salsa del Rio and Mariachi Nueva Generacion recorded audio and video for some classic mariachi and salsa songs like: La Charreada, Tatuajes, La Vida es un Carnaval, and many more! Plus a few extra Christmas songs for all to enjoy. The concert is available by visiting: www.txstatepresents.com and look for Merry-Achi Christmas. Tickets are FREE for TXST faculty, staff and students and $5 for the public which goes towards our scholarship fund. This “On Demand” concert will be available for a short time only so don’t miss it!  Concert opens Friday, December 4 at 7:30pm and closes Sunday, December 6 at 10pm.

John Lopez, Coordinator of Latin Music Studies for Texas State University, recently participated in a panel discussion on how mariachi music directors are engaging students during the pandemic. He talks about how Mariachi Nueva Generacion adapted to the Covid crisis this semester by preparing for the 2020 Merry-Achi Virtual Christmas Concert. Listen to the complete panel discussion where John Lopez joins Dr. Dahlia Guerra from UTRGV, Monica Fogelquist from UT-Austin and Michael Acevedo from UTSA to learn more ways on how mariachi directors are adapting to these challenging times. The panel was recorded as part of the 26th Annual Mariachi Vargas Virtual Extravaganza. https://www.facebook.com/MariachiVargasExtravaganzaSA/videos/412588729922557
