Mariachi Extravaganza Vocal Competition Deadline is October 1st

Calling all mariachi vocalists! The largest, longest-running and most competitive national mariachi vocal competition in the U.S. returns on November 17th & 18th, 2022 at the Lila Cockrell Theater. Cano Health, KHS America Academic Alliance, and H-E-B present the 28th annual Mariachi Extravaganza judged by Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, la excelencia de México, who will also be performing that Friday evening as a grand finale to the spectacular.

Registration for the vocal competition is open to students starting at the elementary school level all the way up to college/university (up to 27 years of age). All those interested in competing in the vocal competition must register as individuals on mariachimusic.com and can submit their audition videos from Sept. 1- Oct. 1, 2022. All participants can choose to be accompanied by a pista, full mariachi, guitar or any makeup of instruments used in mariachi for their preliminary video submission.

The Mariachi Extravaganza continues to be the largest gathering of the greatest talent in the mariachi community in the world and is proud to be the national leader in granting scholarships in mariachi education. These grants go towards supporting mariachi talent in their continuous development in mariachi.  The Grand Champion Vocal winner has the chance to win a cash scholarship and the opportunity to open up for Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán. He/she will also represent the Mariachi Extravaganza for one full year in performance opportunities that arise.

All finalists selected to compete in person on Nov. 18 will have their performances recorded and will receive a certificate of participation and first, second and third place winners from each category will receive trophies along with a grant. The video recordings will be uploaded to the mariachimusic.com YouTube channel and may be used as marketing and promotional pieces helpful when applying for colleges and universities or scholarship opportunities.

New to this year’s Extravaganza is a professional livestream of the vocal competition. Our team at Solarshot will manage the livestreaming of the event. Family, friends, students and seniors will be able to enjoy these  beautiful performances from the comfort of their home or classroom if they are unable to attend in person. Our investment in a professional livestream of the competition will also help broaden the audience and bring more attention to the phenomenal talent that convenes at the Extravaganza each year. More details will be posted soon on how to access the livestream in upcoming blogs so be sure to register for the mariachimusic.com newsletter to have access to the latest news and information about this year’s Extravaganza.
