Mariachi Nuevo Mujer 2000 makes San Antonio debut with Mariachi Azteca de America!

The Sigue La Tradicion Scholarship Concert will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Diane Bennack Concert Hall of the University of the Incarnate Word. Headliners for the show include San Antonio’s own Mariachi Azteca de America as well as the all female ensemble Mariachi Nuevo Mujer 2000 who are based out of Los Angeles, California. Also playing as guest artists are Mariachi Origen y Tradicion from The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center mariachi program, and Mariachi  Cardenal from The University of the Incarnate Word. This production is a collaboration between Mariachi Azteca de America and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center to grant scholarships that will help young musicians continue their education in the mariachi music genre.

About the Artists

Founded by San Antonio local Gino Rivera in 2006, Mariachi Azteca de America quickly became one of the most recognized mariachi ensembles in the state of Texas. The group has shared the stage with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and Mariachi Sol de Mexico and has accompanied Placido Domingo, Aida Cuevas, Paquita La Del Barrio, Steven Sandoval, Arturo Vargas, and many other accomplished artists.

Mariachi Nuevo Mujer 2000 continues the legacy of previous mariachi pioneers, Laura Garciacano Sobrino and Marisa Orduno. Under the direction of Patricia Fernandez, the group keeps the doors open for women in mariachi as ambassadors, earning their equal part in a male dominated genre. Meeting high standards in musicianship, their goal involves surpassing previous stereotypes, as each member of this ensemble represents tradition, culture and education all in one.

Tickets for the Sigue La Tradicion Scholarship Concert can be found at www.aztecadeamerica.com or purchased at the door on the day of the event.
