UTRGV’s David Moreno to lead Mariachi Trumpet Session at TMEA

Co-director of UTRGV’s Mariachi Aztlán David Moreno will be hosting a mariachi trumpet workshop at the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) Convention in San Antonio on February 14th at 4:00 PM.

About the Workshop

With Mariachi education growing exponentially in school systems, is it important to explore the new rehearsal techniques, methods, and professional opportunities we can provide upcoming mariachi musicians. Attendees will get a demonstration of different techniques and topics useful for Mariachi trumpet that include pedagogy, style, and ensemble methods. We encourage any trumpet players to bring their instrument as part of the workshop will be interactive. UTRGV’s Mariachi Aztlán will also be featured as part of the workshop to demonstrate the role of trumpet players in the ensemble.

About David Moreno

David is a life long mariachi musician and has been teaching at a collegiate level for over five years, creating unique musical experiences as a trumpet professor. Moreno graduated UTRGV obtaining both a Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance and a Master’s Degree in Music Education.  He is co-director of the nationally recognized Mariachi Aztlán and tours professionally with the Mexican singer Aida Cuevas throughout the U.S. His teaching and professional expertise qualifies him to present an academically impactful and musically unique trumpet clinic at TMEA 2025.

This workshop is made possible with the support of KHS Alianza Academica, sponsors of the 30th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza.

Thank you Dr. Dahlia Guerra, Frank Loera, David Moreno for this collaborative initiative between UTRGV, South Texas Music, The Mariachi Extravaganza and KHS Alianza Academica. Together we can accomplish more!
