MPR is excited to announce that the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Vocal Camp returns to San Antonio this June 23-27 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts! This week-long program focuses on helping mariachi students with vocal and stage performance through group and private lessons led by professional mariachi singers. The camp culminates with a concert featuring solo and group performances by students accompanied by a live mariachi.

Camp Instructors
The camp is led by professional artists who possess unique skills needed for mariachi performance. The 2025 Mariachi Extravaganza Camp maestros include the Tucson, Arizona based baritone Octavio Moreno and sopranos Vanessa Alonzo, from Houston. Both Alonzo and Moreno have made a name for themselves not only in the mariachi world but in opera as well. Also part of the staff this year is vocalist, guitarist, and Mariachi Extravaganza Artistic Director Jonathan Palomar. Jonathan is a former member of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán and has also performed with high caliber groups such as Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano.

What can students expect to learn in the camp?
Instructors will be covering a variety of topics regarding vocal techniques such as: interpretation, intonation, warm-up and rehearsing tips, style, phrasing, diction, timing and precision, and stage presence.
Will students get private lessons from the instructors?
Yes, all students will be scheduled a private 1 on 1 session with one of the instructors.
Is this an overnight camp? Is lodging provided?
No, students must be dropped off and picked up from camp on a daily basis.
Is breakfast/lunch provided?
Students must pack their own lunch and snacks for the camp.
Do students need to play an instrument to participate?
Although instruments are not required for the camp, we highly encourage students bring their instruments to jam out between sessions!
