The countdown to the nation’s premier mariachi music festival has begun! The 31st Annual Mariachi Extravaganza returns to San Antonio December 4–6, bringing together the most talented mariachi musicians and vocalists from across the U.S. for three unforgettable days of competitions, workshops, and performances.
The event is now only eight weeks away, and preparations are in full swing to create an extraordinary experience for everyone. Excitement is building, and we can’t wait to see all your hard work and dedication come to life in your grand performances.
What’s New This Year?
There’s always something new at the Mariachi Extravaganza! This year, we’re thrilled to welcome several first-time schools, including Palo Alto College, which has registered two groups. Located right here in San Antonio, Palo Alto has had a mariachi program for many years and is now under the direction of longtime mariachi educators John Lopez and Michelle Quintero. We’re happy to have them competing in the college/university group competitions this year!
We’re also excited to welcome DaVinci School for the Science and the Arts, a middle and high school charter program from El Paso, Texas. Of course, it’s always wonderful to see the many returning schools and directors who have supported the Extravaganza year after year.

Early Group Registration Deadline: October 15
The early registration deadline is Tuesday, October 15, and it’s an important date for all mariachi directors. Registering early allows directors to lock in the lowest registration rate of $65 per student. After October 15, the rate increases to $90 per student.
Registering early not only saves money but also helps our team plan properly for the event — from printing music books to coordinating dozens of other logistical details. Remember, payment doesn’t need to be made by October 15 — as long as the online registration form is completed by that date. So, plan ahead, save $25, and avoid last-minute stress.
When Will the Vocal Semifinalists be Announced?
All entries for the National Vocal Competition qualifying round have been received, and our preliminary judges are currently reviewing submissions. This year, we’re excited to bring back the elementary category, alongside the middle school, high school, and college/university divisions.
Once again, we’ve broken records with the number of entries received — making this year’s competition even more exciting (and competitive) than ever before. Every student who submitted an audition video deserves recognition for their effort and commitment to excellence.
The Vocal Semifinalists will be announced on Wednesday, October 29 at 6 PM CST.
