The entries are in! We want to take a moment to thank each and every student who submitted a registration and video for the 2026 Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition. We appreciate everyone who met the deadline and took the time to share their talent with us.
This year, we received 208 vocal competition entries from four states: California, Nevada, Texas and Florida!
The Rio Grande Valley led the way with 72 entries, followed by San Antonio and surrounding cities with 62, and Las Vegas with 21. The remaining 53 entries came from other cities across the country, including Boynton Beach, Florida; Dallas, Texas; and Bakersfield, California.
A Strong Showing Across All Four Categories
Here’s a breakdown of this year’s entries by school category:
- Elementary School: 6 entries
- Middle School: 22 entries
- High School: 103 entries
- College/University: 77 entries
The High School and College/University categories are always especially competitive because of the number of talented students who enter. Every submission will be thoroughly reviewed as our judges work to identify the top vocalists in each category.
The selected semifinalists will earn the opportunity to compete before a live audience at the Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition Semifinals on Thursday, December 3, at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.
Who Will Make It to the Semifinals?
With 208 entries, this year’s turnout is strong and comparable to last year’s competition. We wish every student who submitted an entry the very best of luck!
The 2026 National Vocal Competition semifinalists will be announced via Facebook Live by the end of October. Follow Mariachi Extravaganza on social media for the official announcement date and time.
We’ll also update this blog post with the announcement details, so be sure to check back!
Congratulations to all the students who took this important step in sharing their musical talent. We look forward to seeing who advances to the next stage of the competition and celebrating the next generation of mariachi vocalists!
