Early registration is now open for the 5th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp. All students ages 10-24 who are interested in honing their skills in mariachi music performance are invited to participate June 20-24 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts’ Carlos Álvarez Theater, in San Antonio, Texas.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp is an extension of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza festival, and is open to students from throughout the United States. The Summer Camp was created five years ago to provide support, training and preparation for students interested in competing in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition. Students participating in the camp will have the opportunity to develop their skills in stage presence, projection, diction, public speaking and overall performance. The camp is open to mariachi musicians and vocalists of all levels.
Camp participants will perform in a public recital to be held on Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Carlos Álvarez Theater. The recital will include artistic performances featuring students singing both in individual and group settings.
The Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp brings together some of the world’s most accomplished and skilled mariachi vocalists and vocal instructors. This summer’s instructors will be announced soon.
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts’ Carlos Álvarez Theater is located at 115 Auditorium Circle, in the heart of downtown San Antonio. The theater is walking distance from the famous Riverwalk, several downtown hotels and the Rivercenter Mall.

What time is the camp held?
Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., with a public recital Friday at 7 p.m.
Where do camp students stay?
About 75% of the students who participate in the Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp are from outside San Antonio. Many stay with friends or family who live in San Antonio. Some students will share a hotel room with other students from their schools. Students may also stay with host families during the week.
Is there a charge to attend the public recital?
Yes. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Tobincenter.org website starting April 20. Seating is limited, so please purchase your tickets in advance to take advantage of the discounted rate. One hundred percent of proceeds generated through ticket sales go towards funding the camp!!
What does the Friday show feature?
All students participating in the camp will sing as a group during the public recital, and many will be featured as soloists.

What about meals and snacks?
Students are responsible for bringing a brownbag lunch daily.
Are parents allowed to sit in on the workshops?
