George Strait will sing El Rey during his concert set for Saturday night at the Alamodome and accompanying him will be San Antonio’s very own almost all-female group Mariachi Las Erendiras.
Mariachi Las Erendiras were thrilled when they received the phone call from George Straits’ management team 2 weeks ago inviting them to be part of the concert.
Las Erendiras met George during a private party out at a ranch in Boerne several years ago. There had been talk about them working together and now that opportunity has arrived.
Performing with Las Erendiras is Debra Barrera, Cristina Caldron, Christina Garza, Casandra Marquez, Desarae Rodriguez and Brenda Smith on the violin (all from San Antonio). Trumpet players are Joanna Cantu from Hebronville and the group’s director Jose Torres. Beatrice Delgado, Josephine Garcia and Claudia Franco from San Angelo make up the armonia section.
Mariachi Las Erendiras will play traditonal mariachi songs as well as some new arrangements during four 10-15 minute sets starting at 5:30 p.m. Felicidades a Jose Torres and Mariachi Las Erendiras! This is a historical moment in the entertainment biz when mariachis join stage with the king of country. It’s a dream come true!
