The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Group Competition is the largest and longest running mariachi group competition in the United States. It is an intense competitive environment in three categories: elementary/middle school, high school, and college/university, and is judged by members of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. The first place winners of each category will open the concert for Mariachi Vargas on Saturday, December 4 at the Municipal Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Past winners have also been invited to open concerts for Mariachi Vargas throughout the US.

Tickets to see the mariachi group competition may be purchased at the Municipal Auditorium one hour prior to the start of the competition.
