The Public Theater of San Antonio recently announced their 2022-2023 season that includes “American Mariachi” as one of 8 plays they will present. The play, written by José Cruz González, will run September 9 – October 2, 2022 at the Russell Hill Rogers Theater at the San Pedro Playhouse.

Auditions are now open for mariachi musicians who can play, sing and act. So, if you are looking for a different kind of opportunity to showcase your mariachi skills this fall, perhaps you’d like to audition.

These 5 musicians will perform onstage and off as part of the play. Seeking a guitarron, vihuela, guitar, violin and trumpet. For purposes of the show, we need to hire male players EXCEPT for the violin, who must be a woman.

Pay rate is $200/week – even when a full week is not worked. Max of 22 hours a week.

This is an amazing opportunity to transition your skills into a theatre and work under the direction of Claudia de Vasco. I strongly encourage anyone who is up for a challenge, with some extra time on their hands in the fall, to give this a shot. You will learn a great deal about theater from someone who has a great deal of experience in theater and acting.
