We're turning 25 in 2019! - Mariachi Music

The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza will celebrate it’s SILVER ANNIVERSARY Dec. 1-7, 2019!

The 25^th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is the largest mariachi music festival in Texas and one of the most renowned world-wide. For 25 consecutive years, it has hosted dozens of events during the week-long festival. Among the most prominant are the the National Mariachi Group and Vocal competitions and a concert featuring competition winners and the world-renowned, Mexico City based Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.

Robert Lopez is one of Mariachi Vargas’ newest violinists and vocalist. Robert is originally from California and the first Mexican American to be an official member of the group.

More than 1,000 mariachi musicians will convene in San Antonio for this annual event. “We’re hard at work at making this year’s event a special celebration of our 25th Anniversary,” says Cynthia Muñoz, President of MPR and producer of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. “Plans include celebrity guest appearances, unique opportunities for competition participants and sponsor-driven prizes.

The Presenting Sponsor, for the third consecutive year, is San Antonio based Gonzaba Medical Group. The company is one of the largest and most successful local Hispanic-owned businesses. He is a major supporter of quality Latino cultural arts programming and is a proponent of higher education and cultural preservation among Latino youth in South Texas.

Mariachi Vargas performs Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and range in price from $46-$206 and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, at the Alamodome Box Office, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

Registration to participate in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza workshops and National competitions is open now at mariachimusic.com. The deadline to participate in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition is Oct. 1. Be sure to take advantage of early registration rates for the workshops and competitions by completing the online registration form at mariachimusic.com by Oct. 31.
