Cash Prize to be awarded to Songwriting Competition Winner

The 18th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is less than a month away! There are a few updates for the Mariachi Extravaganza Songwriting Competition, which will take place on Thursday, November 29 at 2 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, 600 E. Market, and is free and open to the public.

First, we are excited to announce that a cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the competition who will be chosen by members of Mariachi Vargas! Second, the registration fee has been waived to enter the competition. Individuals do not have to be registered for the Extravaganza to submit songs for the songwriting competition. Third, the deadline to submit an entry has been extended to Wednesday, November 21. A MP3 must be emailed to Cynthia@mariachimusic.com by November 21.

Prizes
-Prizes include a cash prize, public recognition and exposure. Selection will take place on Thursday, November 29.
-The winner will be notified on this day and will be given the option of having their music performed on Friday, November 30. Time is TBD. Additional exposure will include radio airplay on mariachimusic.com LIVE on KEDA radio and mariachimusic.com.

Who can participate?
-Anyone can submit an entry by the November 21 deadline. If there is more than 1 person who helped create the song, please list the name of only 1 person when submitting the entry.
-You may submit as many entries as you’d like.

How are entries submitted?
-Please email your entry as an MP3 file by Nov. 21 to
cynthia@mariachimusic.com.
-If more than one song is submitted, please submit them as individual MP3 files with only one song on each file.

What is the judging process?
-Members of the world’s preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán will serve as the judges of the competition and select one winner.
-The winner will be recognized during San Antonio’s 18th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza.
-Entries will be judged on lyrics, musical arrangement, creativity, originality and melody.
Submissions will not be judged on the quality of the recording.
